2024 EDITION

HABITAT CONNECTIVITY AND RESILIENCE

Following on from the last two editions, "Restoring our communities" and "What future for Atlantic salmon?", we have chosen to look at the complexity of our ecosystems and what is being done to protect them. Ecological connectivity is an essential concept in ecology and biodiversity conservation for many reasons. It also presents a significant fragility that can be disrupted by human activities. The 2024 Forum is therefore an opportunity to reflect collectively on the challenges we face and the actions we can take to maintain this connectivity and promote the resilience of Atlantic salmon habitats in the face of climate change. As in previous years, in addition to topics related to the main theme of the 2024 edition, the forum will also feature presentations on various aspects of the biology of salmon and their habitats.

2023 EDITION

WHAT FUTURE FOR ATLANTIC SALMON?

The aim of the 2023 Forum was to draw up a portrait of the main threats (e.g. climate change, habitat fragmentation, forestry, invasive species, etc.) facing Quebec salmon populations, and to discuss conservation and management practices that could help mitigate their effects. The forum also sought to identify possible future opportunities for salmon, including those linked to a possible northern extension of the salmon's distribution range favored by climate warming. In this way, Forum 2023 laid the foundations for reflection on priorities and possible actions for the conservation and restoration of salmon populations in Quebec in a changing world, with stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds. In addition to topics related to the main theme of the 2023 edition, the forum also offered a wealth of presentations on various aspects of the biology of salmon and its habitats.
