What is the fly fishing mentorship?

The fly fishing mentorship is an activity organized once a year by the FQSA, with the aim of initiating people new to fly fishing.

The event, which has been running for over 15 years now, usually takes place over the long Labor Day weekend.

Initiates are supervised by mentors with a passion for fly fishing, who promise to pass on their knowledge in a welcoming environment conducive to learning and meeting new people.

 

 

Who is it for?

The mentorship activity is for anyone wishing to learn fly fishing. The activity is aimed both at people who have never touched a fly rod, and at new anglers (10 days fishing or less) who don't yet feel completely independent.

 

 

2025 EDITION

This edition of the fly-fishing mentorship will be held from August 28 to September 1, 2025 in the magnificent Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region.

Each team of initiates (2 participants per team) will be accompanied by a mentor who will teach them the basics of fly fishing in order to develop their autonomy and skills.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore different fishing techniques and environments thanks to a day dedicated to salmon fishing on the À-Mars and Saint-Jean-Saguenay rivers, as well as an outing dedicated to lake trout fishing.

Those who wish to do so can also take part in a pre-mentoring day on August 28, where they will be introduced to casting techniques on grass. This preparation will help them feel more comfortable and ready to make the most of the mentoring experience.

This trip is made possible thanks to funding from the Ministère de l'environnement, de la lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la faune et des parcs (MELCCFP). In connection with this funding, a random draw is mandatory in order to take part in the trip.

On June 2, 2025, the Saumon Québec team will draw the names of 10 participants, who will be able to bring a guest of their choice to the event.
